SUMMARY

I moved to the Bay area and had a wonderful in-person internship experience at Meta. I worked as a Product Design intern with the Video Design team where I designed for Facebook Watch. For my project, I designed an onboarding experience for a new Facebook Watch product. I started with audits and sketches to high-fidelity mockups and prototypes. Along with my manager, mentor, and 4 designers I worked closely with:

  • 2 Content designers to obtain the right content for my designs so that users understand the onboarding experience better,

  • 2 Engineers to get knowledge on the feasibility of my designs, timelines, and roadmapping

  • A data scientist to get context on existing data to better inform my onboarding flow

  • And 2 UX researchers to understand users' needs better and help prepare for user interviews.

I also participated in a 3-day design sprint with the Video Design team where I was a key contributor in the ideation stage and explored various design patterns and I learned how to develop frameworks for products.

TAKEAWAYS

During my internship I built on my :

  • Visual design skills by being able to produce polished high fidelity mockups that made use of the design system

  • Product thinking skills by being able to identify people’s problems and understanding user’s needs

  • Interaction design skills  by producing end to end flows using prototypes

Furthermore, I learnt:

  • Always ask questions.

  • Be confident in your designs.

  • Discomfort is usually followed by growth.

  • Tell a story with your designs, don't just design things because they're pretty or look nice, but all designs should solve a certain user problem/need.
